Voir la vie en rose

Voir la vie en rose. This eloquent French idiom literally means – ‘to see life in pink’.

The idea is that we learn to construct a lens to perceive our lives, and our environment, as rosy/positive.

In her signature song, Edith Piaf wrote the lyrics about finding love after despair. The period of anguish which preceded can be interpreted as a reference to World War II. The refrain sings:

Quand il me prend dans ses bras (when he takes me in his arms)
Il me parle tout bas (he speaks to me softly)
Je vois la vie en rose (i see life as rosy)
